Perhaps most interesting is controlling the locomotive itself - fully animated inside, it takes 10 buttons to control the full thing - brakes, regulator, reverser, dynamic lights, horn. Connecting cars is quite simple, and they will automatically pull together if they are close enough. The preview mode with f5 helps a little, but it's still my least favorite rail laying.įuelling the locomotive is just coal - strangely enough, steam locomotives don't need water. The pieces are fairly long, and manual, but when doing curves, you have to place one, then go to the other end, and line it up and place it. Moving around the train cabin is possible too, you're not locked in. Hearing the locomotive roar across the track is wonderful. With some beautiful models and full scale, it's an impressive sight.

Rails of war is a late 1800s era mod about steam trains. (Also, some sound of the train wheels when it goes by would be nice.) Rails of War Overall, TC is a well made mod, abiding closest to Minecraft scale and style, but could use work on the laying and transition to 3D tracks. The hitboxes for the trains are large, which means you want to separate your trains a fair bit, and be cautious around the front of the train, as it'll knock you back easily.

Linking carts is somewhat difficult, compared to other mods - they have to touch, sometimes go into each-other a bit, before they will link. 2D can be automated, as it's only basic rails.

Electric trains can be powered by consuming redstone, by going over electric track, or using RF ducts (or similar) to have overhead wires.ģD track laying is fully manual, and at only a few meters at a time, it's time consuming. However, going between 3D and 2D, there is a height difference which can look quite ugly in the transition.įueling is simple - Steam takes coal and water, Diesel takes TC-made Diesel, as well as other mods Diesel. Its scale still retains the minecraft rail, thus making automation possible with railcraft rails (special TC rails just for this purpose, too). Traincraft is the old guard of modded trains - the first (that I know of) Major train mod, it now excels at having a wide variety of train and cargo. Moderate (world gen, crafting machines, petrol) Trains have always been a great interest in Minecraft modding, and now with mods from Traincraft to Immersive Railroading, how do they stack up against each-other?
